Seton Hall Law Honors Three Esteemed Graduates at Alumni Gala

Seton Hall Law is pleased to have awarded The Honorable Christopher S. Porrino ‘92, Attorney General of New Jersey, with the schools’ Public Servant Award at the 2017 Alumni Gala. Nominated by Governor Chris Christie ’87, Porrino was unanimously confirmed by the Senate on August 1, 2016, as New Jersey’s 60th Attorney General.

He has worked to safeguard the interests of New Jersey’s citizens by advancing regulatory reform and other initiatives to combat the opiate epidemic, fighting against corruption in government, strengthening police-community relations, devising a first in the nation “Safe Care Cam” surveillance program to protect the elderly from abusive care-givers, and by aggressively pursuing those who exploit children.

Seton Hall Law is pleased to have awarded The Honorable Michael Chagares ’87 with the Distinguished Graduate Award. Judge Chagares has served as a Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit since 2006 and reflecting on his continued commitment to the Law School, has been an adjunct faculty member since 1991.

Judge Chagares credits a constitutional law course during his undergraduate studies at Gettysburg College for his interest in attending law school, and recalls Seton Hall Law as having “an excellent reputation as an educational institution, not to mention a terrific network in New Jersey.”

Seton Hall Law is pleased to have awarded Jodi Anne Hudson ’96 with the Exemplary Service Award. Hudson’s law career first took shape as a teenage camp counselor. “I wanted to take my campers on an overnight trip,” Hudson recalls. “The director told me we could not go, but I gave him four reasons why we could, and should. He changed his mind and gave us permission, while commenting to me, ‘You’re going to be a lawyer.’”

That defining moment eventually brought Hudson to Seton Hall Law from her home state of Virginia. “I’m a transplant,” Hudson says. “I came to Seton Hall Law and never left New Jersey.”
