Seton Hall Law Welcomes Two New Faculty Members

Seton Hall University School of Law is pleased to welcome two distinguished scholars to its faculty: Professor Salihah Denman, who joins the Law School this fall, and Professor Daimeon Shanks-Dumont, who will begin a joint appointment with the School of Diplomacy and International Relations in spring 2027.

Professors Denman and Shanks-Dumont are accomplished scholars whose work reflects intellectual rigor, public engagement and a commitment to educating the next generation of lawyers. Their appointments will deepen our academic excellence and further strengthen the vibrant scholarly community that defines Seton Hall Law,” said Dean Ronald Weich. 

Professor Salihah Denman joins Seton Hall Law from Pace University Elisabeth Haub School of Law, where she taught Family Law and Children and the Law. Her scholarship examines family law, child welfare and children’s rights, with particular attention to the constitutional dimensions of state intervention in families. 

Previously, Denman taught at New York Law School and directed the New York Legal Education Opportunity (LEO) Program, which prepares aspiring lawyers from historically underrepresented backgrounds for success in law school and the legal profession. She earned her J.D. from Howard University School of Law and an LL.M. from American University Washington College of Law. 
“Joining such a talented community of students and distinguished legal scholars at Seton Hall Law is an honor. I am excited for the opportunity to engage in meaningful legal scholarship while preparing a diverse student population to join the legal profession,” Denman said. 

Thomas Healy, who chaired the faculty appointments committee, welcomed Denman’s appointment. 
“Professor Denman is an outstanding addition to the Seton Hall Law faculty. She has extensive practice experience and an impressive scholarly record that has already earned her a national reputation. Our students will benefit tremendously from her instruction and mentorship,” Healy said. 

The appointments committee included Professors Ndjuoh MehChu, Neoshia Roemer, Tracy Kaye and Brian Murray. 

Professor Daimeon Shanks-Dumont will begin his joint appointment in spring 2027, bringing expertise in the history of international law, sovereignty and legal theory, with a particular focus on humanitarian and environmental law. His interdisciplinary scholarship will contribute to both the School of Law and the School of Diplomacy and International Relations. 

Shanks-Dumont earned his J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School and is completing a Ph.D. in Jurisprudence and Social Policy at the University of California, Berkeley. His forthcoming article, Godzilla Cinema and the Imaginal Legal History of Ecocide, will appear in the Yale Journal of Law & the Humanities. 

Professor Jonathan Hafetz, who served as the Law School’s faculty representative on the joint appointments committee, highlighted the interdisciplinary opportunities created by the appointment. 
“We are thrilled to welcome Daimeon Shanks-Dumont to Seton Hall. His scholarship and teaching in international law will strengthen both the School of Law and the School of Diplomacy and International Relations, while his joint appointment will foster new connections and opportunities for collaboration across the University,” Hafetz said.
