Erin Barrett is a 2L at Seton Hall Law and is a Legal Intern with Quest Diagnostics in Madison, NJ. Originally from Morris County, NJ, Barrett was a finance major during her undergraduate education and first became interested in the health care industry upon learning of the renowned Health Law program at the Law School. “Throughout my summer at Quest, I’m hoping to gain insight and experience into a totally new (to me) industry,” Barrett says.
A New Jersey native, Mary Bessemer is a 3L at Seton Hall Law and is currently a Summer Associate with Reed Smith in Princeton, NJ. As she is working closely on a number of cyber security issues, Bessemer says, “it’s exciting to not only see how the field is developing, but also to be a part of it. I hope to learn from the extremely intelligent and talented lawyers who surround me in my office and start developing a practical skillset of my own.”
Omar Debs is a 2L at Seton Hall Law and a Legal Intern at Prudential Financial in Newark, NJ assigned to the Labor and Employment group. Having only been in New Jersey a year, Debs comes to the Law School from Michigan and says of his position, “I have been learning a lot about labor disputes, minimum wage and overtime laws, new paid sick leave laws, equal pay laws, ‘ban the box’ laws, and much more. It has been a great experience, and has made me even more interested in studying employment law in greater depth at Seton Hall Law.”
Originally from Warren County, NJ, Seton Hall Law 3L Ashley Hahn is currently experiencing New York and Germany as a Summer Associate for Debevoise & Plimpton. She says, "At Debevoise, I am primarily focusing on Litigation where I am exposed to complicated cases, new areas of law, and up-and-coming legal topics. Through my work, I am learning about international arbitration, data protection and privacy, and competition law. In the New York office, I am helping the International Dispute Resolution Group (IDRG) with an investor-state international arbitration. In the Frankfurt office, I am helping with issues of data protection and privacy. I also enjoy helping with pro bono matters and getting to know the associates and partners as I help them research, write, and edit presentations, client updates, and articles."
As an intern with the City of Newark in the Contracts Section, Simon Kahng, a 2L at Seton Hall Law, has a keen interest in Contract law. Kahng comes to the Law School from California and South Korea and has the opportunity to gain hands-on experiences and witness the applications of theories he’s learned in the classrooms of Seton Hall Law. He says, “I am eager to see what it is like to be a practicing attorney in the public sector and further develop my legal research and writing skills.
Hailing from Bergen County, NJ, Brian Kloeblen is a 3L at Seton Hall Law and secured a Summer Associate position in two countries! Working with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, Kloeblen is learning the transactional side of corporate law in New York City and London. “Since law school is heavily litigation focused, gaining exposure to complicated transactions has given me valuable exposure,” he says. Additionally, he is experiencing cross-border transactions firsthand.
Holding two positions this summer, Joshua Law is a 2L student at Seton Hall Law. He is a Judicial intern with Judge Vazquez of the District Court of New Jersey and separately with Judge Moore of the New Jersey Superior Court Chancery Division. Hailing from Canada, Law says he is hoping to learn “effective methods to sharpen my legal research and writing skills, as well as the rationale and process of rendering a judicial opinion.”
After receiving his undergraduate degree from The University of Michigan, Timothy Nichols, came back to his homestate of New Jersey to study at Seton Hall Law. As a 2L, he is currently a Legal Fellow at Panasonic Corportation of North America. He says, "I want to see how corporate, transactional, M&A law emerges from the in-house corporate side of things. Not only will this help build my familiarity with the subjects, but it should also help me compare the atmosphere with a traditional law firm so I can fully appreciate what I most want to do in life and in what setting I truly enjoy working." Ghatul Abdul Qayum is a 3L at Seton Hall Law and a Summer Associate at McElory, Deutsch, Mulvaney, & Carpenter, LLP in Morristown. She is assisting partners and associates with legal research and writing, including the opportunity to research topics for the Construction Law Group regarding surety and performance bonds. Originally from Virginia, she says, “MDM&C requires their Summer Associates to clerk before joining the firm as full-time attorneys. The firm recognizes the invaluable experience that a judicial clerkship affords their young associates, sharpening their writing skills and familiarizing them with the judicial process.”
Alison Thompson is a 2L at Seton Hall Law and is currently a summer intern at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Newark. A New Jersey native from Morris County, Alison says, "I am learning about the role of federal prosecutors and getting a lot of opportunities to go to court and observe AUSAs.
