Lactation Space Guidelines

Students who are nursing or lactating may request to use a lactation space to express milk while on campus.

On the Law School campus, Room 230 has been designated as a lactation space.

The lactation space is available at any time the building is open. The law school is open to students from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. daily.; Scheduling use of the lactation space is not required; however, access to the lactation space requires a code. To receive the code and access to the space, please contact Rochelle Edwards, Assistant Dean for Equity, Justice, and Engagement and Deputy Title IX Coordinator for the law school.

The lactation space is only to be used for the purpose of expressing and collecting breast milk. It is not to be used for studying, sleeping, or any other purpose unrelated to lactation.

There is a sign outside of the lactation space to denote that the space is either occupied or unoccupied. Locking and unlocking the door will automatically toggle the occupied/unoccupied sign. Locking the door while in use will assist with safeguarding this private space for yourself and others.

For student convenience, a refrigerator is provided in the lactation space. Students should be mindful that the lactation space may be used by more than one person during the day when choosing to store anything, including breast milk or equipment, in the space.

Those using the lactation space are expected to clean up after themselves and remove all personal belongings. Disinfectant wipes are provided but are not intended to be used to clean personal equipment. If wipes are not available, please notify Dean Edwards.

If you encounter any issues or concerns with the lactation space, please contact Rochelle Edwards, Assistant Dean for Equity, Justice and Engagement/Deputy Title IX Coordinator at [email protected] or (973) 642-8387.
