Seton Hall Law Ranked 31st in Nation for Return on Investment

Law Student Speaking in a CourtroomSeton Hall Law School continues to build on its reputation for academic excellence and career success, receiving recognition in a recent report published by Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce*. Georgetown assessed return on investment (ROI) by calculating median income, less law school debt, four years after law school graduation. Under this formula, Seton Hall Law School ranked 31st out of 186 law schools in the United States. The ranking of 31 places Seton Hall in the top 17% nationwide.

"Our recognition as a top school for ROI speaks to the value of a Seton Hall Law education," said Dean Ronald Weich. "Our Office of Career Services has adopted a ‘one student at a time’ philosophy and is dedicated to helping students find employment that reflects their interests. Our focus on experiential learning, combined with our dedicated faculty and robust alumni network, creates unparalleled opportunities for our graduates."

Seton Hall Law School’s reputation for excellent employment outcomes was also recognized in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report rankings. According to U.S. News, Seton Hall Law graduates had employment outcomes 10 months after graduation that placed the Law School at No. 50, within the top 26 percent in the country.

One factor leading to Seton Hall’s high return on investment is that Seton Hall graduates frequently start their careers with judicial clerkships. The Princeton Review recently ranked Seton Hall the best law school in the nation for securing a state or local clerkship.

Above the Law wrote an article about the Princeton Review results noting Seton Hall’s success, explaining, “Attending a law school with high placement rates for state and local clerkships can be very helpful ... as it reflects past graduates’ reputation with judges, and the law school’s pull within the local community.”

Over 96% of Seton Hall students are employed after a clerkship, and 65.5% of those obtain jobs at law firms.
Assistant Dean of Career Services Jacqueline Pirone explained, “A clerkship provides an excellent experience for our graduates who are beginning their legal careers. Not only does it provide a new attorney with the opportunity to hone their legal research, writing and analytical skills, but it also provides them with a mentor in their judge and the chance to observe and network with attorneys who appear in the courtroom.”

Another factor leading to Seton Hall’s employment success is its high bar pass rate. Seton Hall’s 2023 graduates passed the bar at a rate almost 12% higher than other graduates who took the bar in the same jurisdictions. As a result, a high number of Seton Hall students were eligible for employment positions that require bar passage.

“These recent accolades are the latest in a series of successes for Seton Hall Law School, which has consistently been recognized for its academic rigor, supportive community and dedication to student success,” said Weich. “We remain committed to providing an education that not only prepares students for the challenges of the legal profession but also ensures they thrive in their careers long after graduation.”
