Seton Hall Law School Professor Gaia Bernstein received the Iconic Women: Creating
a Better World for All Award at the Women Economic Forum in recognition of her scholarship
and research, development of policy, and activism to protect children from the harms
of over-digitization.
Women Economic Forum (WEF) is a multinational organization, which fosters community, connections and collaboration among women worldwide. Its goal is to ignite and inspire greater enterprise and leadership, propelling women’s economic empowerment and influence in all walks of life.
Professor Bernstein also delivered a keynote speech at the WEF on the Economy of Loneliness: Why Human Touch Still Matters, which draws on her latest book project. Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Olexandra Matvichuk delivered the other keynote speech during the conference.
“It’s a true honor to receive this award from an organization dedicated to improving the world through leadership driven by human connection,” said Professor Bernstein. “My work aims to deepen our collective understanding of the risks emerging technologies pose to our humanity and to help shape thoughtful, practical solutions. I'm encouraged to see these efforts resonate with a global audience.”

An expert in law and technology, information privacy, and intellectual property, Professor Bernstein is nationally recognized for her work on regulating addictive technologies, social media and AI. Professor Bernstein’s acclaimed book Unwired, addresses the impact of addictive technologies and draws a roadmap for its regulation. She is at work on a new book, Technologies of Loneliness.
