Frequently asked questions and answers related to the LL.M. program offerings at Seton Hall Law.
I am a foreign trained law student. Will I be able to sit for any state bar exam after
completing the LL.M. program at Seton Hall Law?
The LL.M. in American Law is designed to satisfy the program requirements for eligbility
to sit for many state bar examinations, including New York. Admission into our Corporate
Compliance, Health Law, and Intellectual Property Law LL.M. programs does not guarantee
or in any way suggest eligibility to sit for any state's bar examination, including
New York or California.
How many credits will I need to graduate?
The LL.M. degree requires 24 credits.
What are your admissions standards?
While Seton Hall Law School does not use numerical cutoffs, only candidates with solid
academic and personal credentials are encouraged to apply. The majority of accepted
applicants have a grade point average in law school of 3.0 or higher. For applicants
to specialized degree programs, grades in relevant courses will also be a factor in
the admissions process. The Admissions Committee will consider all aspects of the
application which includes: graduate degrees in relevant fields, overall quality of
law school academic record, demonstrated interest in the chosen area of study (health
law, financial services, intellectual property law, American law), personal statement,
letters of recommendation, practice experience (where applicable), career goals and
other significant professional achievements evidencing an ability to excel in academic
pursuits.
What are your application requirements?
Requirements for LL.M. programs in Corporate Compliance, Health Law, and Intellectual
Property Law can be found here. Requirements for the LL.M. in American Law are vastly different and available here.
When is the application deadline?
Corporate Compliance, Intellectual Property and Health Law LL.M. applications are
accepted on a rolling basis. These programs begin multiple times per year. International
applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible. The priority application
deadline for Fall admission into the LL.M. in American Law program is March 1. Students
are only enrolled beginning in the fall semester. Late applications may be reviewed
on a case-by-case basis.
How do I apply?

How much is the tuition?

Is financial assistance available?
Financial assistance is available through the Federal Stafford Loan Program and/or
private loans. To be considered for this program, individuals who have been accepted
into the program must file the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), found
online at studentaid.gov. Upon receipt of the FAFSA information, Seton Hall Law School’s Office of Financial
Resource Management will review the student’s eligibility and send an Award Notice.
Part-time students need to take at least 6 (six) credits per semester to be eligible
for financial assistance. The Office of Financial Resource Management may be reached

Does Seton Hall Law School accept transfer credit?
Yes. Seton Hall Law School may accept transfer credits earned in a program offered
by an ABA-Accredited Law School. Read the official Transfer of Credit Policy here.
How many students are in the program?
The number of students varies, with between five and 10 students enrolling each year.
Do you offer both full-time and part-time programs?
Yes. The Corporate Compliance, Health Law, and Intellectual Property Law LL.M. programs
can be completed full-time and part-time. Full-time students complete the program
in one year; part-time students complete the program in five to six semesters. The
LL.M. in American Law is a full-time program only.
When do classes begin and when are courses usually offered?
Typically, the fall semester begins the third week of August, the spring semester
begins the third week of January, and summer session takes place from the end of May
to the end of July. On-campus courses are offered in the evenings, although LL.M.
students are welcome to take daytime courses if their schedules permit.
