Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a borrowing service provided to currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff at Seton Hall University School of Law. This service allows you to electronically request and receive articles, book chapters, reports, or other resources not available in full text through the Rodino Center collection. As a matter of policy, the Rodino Center does not interlibrary loan any casebooks, study aids, or item that are available through the Rodino Center collection (via the Internet, Westlaw, Lexis-Nexis, etc.).

Simple requests are usually filled in 2 -10 working days, however, time to fulfillment may vary based on delivery times, as well as the time required to fill and ship requests. Because delivery may take as long as three to four weeks, please give ILL staff as much lead time as possible. Delays or problems with your request will be communicated to you via e-mail. If you have questions regarding your borrowing request, please e-mail [email protected] for assistance. The ILL lending office is open Monday - Friday, 10 am - 6:00 pm.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are a student placing an ILL as a part of your work on a journal, please place them through the designated representative for your journal. The representative should send ILL requests to the ILL department in bulk. Any ILL requests placed by individual journal students will be sent back.

What is the status of my request?
Go to the Rodino Center and beyond search page (here) and Sign In to your account on the bottom right of the page using your SHU PirateNet username and password. Once signed in, go to “My Account” and select “Requests”.

Where do I pick up my item?
Once your ILL materials have arrived, you will receive an email notifying you that they are available for pickup at the Service Desk during Service Desk hours.

The loan period varies because the lending library determines the due date. Also, the lending library decides rather to approve or deny a renewal request. Due date will be indicated on the borrowed book.

Why is my library account blocked?
Failure to return an item on time (including recalled items) can result in overdue, lost item replacement and processing fees. Until the item is returned you will be blocked from using Rodino Center services including ILL, Study Rooms, Reserve items and other borrowing privileges.

What happened to the article that was electronically delivered to me?
ILL articles are automatically deleted after 30 days or 5 views (whichever comes first) so please remember to save an article immediately after it is downloaded.

Can I borrow items from libraries located outside the United States?
No, you can only borrow items from libraries that are located in the United States excluding Alaska and Hawaii.

I am a journal student; how do I place an ILL for my work on that?
At the beginning of a new academic year, each journal should select one representative to place ILLs in bulk. If you are a student on a journal, you will place your ILL via that representative. Individual ILLs placed by students other than the representative will be sent back.
