Major League Baseball Names Michele Meyer-Shipp '95, Chief People & Culture Officer

NEWARK, N.J. – August 6, 2020 – Major League Baseball (MLB) Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. announced the appointment of Michele Meyer-Shipp ’95 to serve as its Chief People & Culture Officer. Meyer-Shipp will manage all league office “human resources activities, including talent processes and programs, workplace culture, and diversity and inclusion,” according to MLB. Meyer-Shipp also will oversee all off-field office operations.

“Michele has dedicated her career to establishing diverse, inclusive, and engaging workplaces. She brings an unparalleled ability to create meaningful cultures and relationships among employees by implementing policies that help people connect with one another and embrace the power of diversity to improve business operations,” says Dean Kathleen M. Boozang. “Major League Baseball did not just hire a Seton Hall Law alum. MLB hired a stellar and accomplished advocate for equity, justice, and fairness. We are proud of Michele and thrilled to have Seton Hall Law represented in this influential position within such an iconic social institution.”

Meyer-Shipp previously served as the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the renowned accounting firm KPMG. In this capacity, she created and oversaw the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives. She also managed human resource activities, and consulted with clients on strategies to create diverse workplaces. Prior to this role, she was Global Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld, and Global Chief Diversity Officer for Prudential Financial. Before these roles, she practiced employment law with several prominent public and private entities.

MLB Commissioner Manfred remarked, “I am very pleased that Michele is joining us to fill this vital role for Major League Baseball.
