Seton Hall Law Welcomes Professors Jacob Elberg and Deborah Schander

Seton Hall Law is pleased to have hired Jacob Elberg and Deborah Schander to expand its faculty’s expertise. Professors Elberg and Schander each bring unique skill sets, which will continue to make Seton Hall Law a go-to leader for legal education.

Professor Jacob Elberg, formerly an Assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey for 11 years, specializes in Health Law, Health Care Fraud and Abuse, Evidence, and Data Analytics. His areas of interest include corporate crime and compliance, the role of various actors in the enforcement of health care fraud laws and regulations, and criminal justice policy.

He has been awarded the Department of Justice’s Executive Office of U.S. Attorneys Director’s Award for Superior Performance as an AUSA and the Health & Human Services Office of Inspector General Award for Fighting Fraud, Waste, and Abuse. Professor Elberg has also been a leading speaker throughout the country on issues relating to health care fraud and abuse.

He earned his J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School and holds a B.A. cum laude and with honors from Dartmouth College. After graduating from law school, he clerked for the Honorable Nancy Gertner, United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Associate

Professor Deborah Schander is Director of the Peter W. Rodino, Jr. Law Library, supervising all library operations, including personnel, facilities, the library collection, and research instruction and support. Her areas of expertise include legal research instruction, foreign and international legal research, legal information literacy, and library outreach.

She is an active member of regional and national law library associations at both the committee and special interest section levels. She is past chair of the Professional Engagement, Growth, and Advancement special interest section of the American Association of Law Libraries and past president of the Atlanta Law Libraries Association. Professor Schander has written and spoken on a variety of topics, including legal research instruction, professional development, and student outreach.

Professor Schander holds a J.D. and an M.L.I.S. from Florida State University and a B.A. in English from Washington Adventist University.
