Incoming Seton Hall Law Professor Receives Truman Foundation Award

Incoming Seton Hall University School of Law professor, Jennifer Oliva, has been selected as the 2019 Ike Skelton Award Winner by The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. The award honors Congressman Ike Skelton by recognizing a Truman Scholar “who is a current or former member of the armed forces and has made significant contributions to public service and the Truman community.”

Professor Oliva has answered the highest call of public service by serving in the United States Army; she became a Truman Scholar in 1995 while a cadet at the United States Military Academy.

“We congratulate Professor Oliva for this honor and have tremendous gratitude for her service,” says Dean Kathleen M. Boozang. “It is our great pleasure to welcome her to Seton Hall Law. She brings a wealth of knowledge to her health and evidence classes, and our students will certainly benefit from her experience and enthusiasm.”

Professor Oliva’s work with veterans’ groups in West Virginia is just one, if an outstanding, example of public service through engaged scholarship that Seton Hall encourages.

She is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and the United States Supreme Court, among other district and appellate courts, and is a member of the National Organization of Veterans Advocates.

Professor Oliva is a legal expert in FDA, health, and evidence. Previously, she was a Visiting Scholar at The Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School and an Associate Professor at West Virginia University in the College of Law and School of Public Health.
