NJ Transit Student Discount Information

NJ TRANSIT  Student Pass / Discount Access Information

NEW: "The discounted student monthly pass is available exclusively through the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App. The app provides you more control and choices on when, where and how to buy your pass. Plus, when you purchase and display your Student Pass from your mobile device, securely and touch-free, there are no mailing or processing fees." (njtransit.com/studentpass)

All full-time students (12 or more credits) are eligible* to receive a 25% discount on NJ TRANSIT bus, rail, or light rail monthly pass for a limited time.

All incoming full-time students will be able to purchase NJ Transit discount tickets as of August 19th. Buy your pass by the 10th of the month to receive it the following month (for example, place your order by September 10th for your October pass). Information available at NJTransit.com/studentpass.


All full-time students are eligible. Part-time students are not eligible.

* Summer Eligibility: For the summer term, a student will be considered full-time if he/she is registered as a full-time, half-time and less than half-time.


To receive the discount, you must log in to your LawNet / PirateNet Account.**

  1. Select the LawNet button.
  2. Select link next to "Enroll for NJ TRANSIT Mobile Student Monthly Pass.". Follow instructions and fill in all required fields.
  3. Verify your full-time status and student (i.e. [email protected]) email address.


To receive the discount, you must log in to your LawNet / PirateNet Account.**

  1. Select the LawNet button.
  2. Select link next to "If you have an Existing NJ TRANSIT Mobile Account under your Seton Hall email address to enroll/validate for the NJ TRANSIT Mobile Student Monthly Pass." and follow instructions.
  3. Verify your full-time status and student (i.e. [email protected]) email address.

IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER when Purchasing Discounted Ticket

  1. Download the NJ TRANSIT app
  2. Open the app and tap BUY
  3. Sign in with your .edu email (i.e. [email protected]) and password
  4. Select a Student Monthly pass and pay for it in the app
  5. Monthly passes are available for purchase from the 19th of the previous month through the 10th of the month the pass is valid.
  6. Student pass will display in the app on the 1st of the month.
  7. Students who participate in this program agree that the monthly pass is for their exclusive use only. Each student is eligible to receive one discounted monthly pass per month. Passes are non-transferable. Any abuse or purposeful deception will result in the cancellation of the student's monthly pass account, and (s)he will be unable to participate in the program in the future. This will also apply to any other student who is knowingly involved.

Can't purchase your ticket?

**If the system does not consider you a full-time student, you will not be eligible for the discount. If you are having issues accessing the discount, please confirm the following.

  1. You are a full-time student enrolled in 12 or more credits.
  2. You do not have any holds on your student account (to confirm, contact Law Enrollment Services at 973-642-8502).
  3. The ticket you are trying to purchase is within distance/route between your current street address and Seton Hall Law School. For more information on this, contact NJ Transit at 973-275-5555/973-491-7262 (hold for representative) or go to Customer Service Desk at Penn Station.

Having issues with accessing a discounted ticket? Next Steps.

If you've confirmed you are a full-time student, you don't have any holds on your account, and you are purchasing the correct route and still cannot access your discount, here's what you need to do next.

  1. If you need your discounted ticket ASAP, go to the NJ Transit office at Penn Station and request the Student Discount Form to be verified by Enrollment Services at the law school.  Return verified form to NJ Transit customer service window to purchase your discounted ticket.

  2. Contact University Help Desk at 973-761-2222 and let them know you've confirmed with Enrollment Services that you are eligible to receive the NJ Transit discount but the portal is not allowing you to purchase a discounted ticket.
