Institute for Privacy Protection Fellowship

Institute for Privacy Protection searching for two student fellows

Seton Hall Law’s Institute for Privacy Protection seeks to promote academic research, educate businesses on proper privacy practices in commercial advertising, and inform consumers of their privacy rights. As part of its efforts to inform individuals about consumer exposure and increase awareness of emerging privacy threats, the Institute is seeking two student fellows for its inaugural student fellowship program.

Student fellows will:

> receive training on the Institute’s Privacy Curriculum for older elementary and/or middle school students

> teach older elementary and/or middle school students about privacy protection through exploration of privacy topics including social media, advertising, and digital reputation and maintaining an appropriate online-offline balance.

In addition, student fellows will play an active role in other activities of the Institute for Privacy Protection.

Each student fellowship will be for one academic year. Student Fellows will receive a fellowship award of $5,000 split between the Fall and Spring semesters.

The Institute’s Director Professor Gaia Bernstein explained: “The Institute’s school outreach program is unique in that we plan to eventually reach out also to parents and discuss in addition to privacy and reputation also how to deal with problems of technology over-use.”

The students will train with the Institute’s Fellow Jari Peters who comes to Seton Hall Law with ten years experience in the privacy field.
