Portal - Email, Cloud Storage, Course Materials, Personal Data, Compass Attendance Tracker

Seton Hall Law School provides all law students with access to our Portal to reach important cloud-based applications and resources such as email, cloud storage and collaboration (MS Office365), course materials (Blackboard), personal data (Banner) and attendance tracking (Compass).

Portal through Web Browser and Mobile App

To access our portal, connect to our law school homepage law.shu.edu and hover over the Students link on the top menu, which should then show LawNet/Portal link on the left.

Click there and at the login, enter your login code and password...

Your login code (also known as your shortname) is an 8 letter code usually consisting of the first 6 letters of your LAST name and the first 2 of your FIRST name. If your last name is less than 6 letters then your code is your entire last name and as much of your first name as needed to reach 8 letters. (Ex: SMITHJOE for Joe Smith).  If your last and first name together do not consist of 8 letters, then use your entire last name and entire first name. (Ex. BELLJOE for Joe Bell).  If your last name is a common name, your shortname may have already been taken by another SHU student so your pattern may be the first 6 of your last name, then the 1st letter of your first name...  then a number..  (Ex: MILLERS1 for Stephen Miller)

If you cannot determine your login code visit our LawHelpdesk on the 4th floor of the Rodino Center or email [email protected]...

Your first time password is a pattern consisting of the first 4 letters of your last name in capital letters, then the last 6 digits of your student ID, then the # sign 4 times, for a total of 14 characters (Ex. SMIT000000####).  If your last name is 4 letters or less, use the first 2 letters of your last name and the first 2 letters of your first name in capital letters, then the last 6 digits of your student ID then the # sign 4 times. (BEJO000000#### for Joe Bell.

Our portal is also available on your tablet and mobile device through the OKTA app.  In your device's App store, search "OKTA" to locate the appropriate app, and then download and install.  When prompted add our server location of "shu.okta.com".

OKTA plugins for your Browser  (Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari)

Once inside our portal, you may be prompted to download and install a plug-in for your browser.  This plug-in is required for the single sign-on feature in OKTA to work correctly.  You may also be prompted to update the plug-in from time to time.

Email/Cloud Storage/Contacts Through Microsoft Office 365

Once inside our portal, click the appropriate Microsoft link to access services such as Outlook (email), OneDrive (cloud storage), People (contacts) and other O365 offerings. Your SHU Law email address is your first name, then a period, then your last name @student.shu.edu. ([email protected]).  Some addresses include a number after the last name if the original address has already been taken by another student...

Course Materials through Blackboard

Once logged into our portal, you can reach your course materials by clicking the Blackboard icon. Blackboard will then show your current courses, law school organizations and other important content. A separate Blackboard app is also available for your tablet and mobile device. When configuring this app, choose "Seton Hall University" for your school and complete the install process with your login code and password.

Personal Data through LawNet - Banner Self Service

Once inside our portal, you may review and update your personal information (address, phone number, etc.), view class schedules, grades, holds, and Financial Aid Information by clicking on the LawNET icon.  Once inside LawNET, choose the My Info tab and locate the information you wish to view under either the Banner Self-Service or Personal Information channels.

Attendance Tracking through Compass

Once inside our portal, you can track your class attendance using Compass.  Click the Compass icon and your current courses will appear listed by Class Name and Professor, with a column to the right showing the number of absences to the date of the last recorded classroom attendance sheet.
Click on the number in the Absence column to see your full attendance record, remembering to scroll down to see the last posted recording date.

Please note that the recorded attendance in Compass is NOT TO DATE, but rather ONLY TO THE DATE LISTED IN THE ATTENDANCE RECORD VIEW  (about 1 to 2 weeks behind).

Make sure to scroll down on the attendance view to see the last date posted and then add in any absences since that date to determine your current number of absences.

For more information, please see our Compass attendance tracking page here.
